The Weather

At my home in Neumarkt, Salzburg  I operate an amateur weather station.

In the year 1984 I wrote a weather program, originally for the Sinclair Spectrum Home Computer. A few years later I had to change the program code for the Schneider (Amstrad) CPC 6128. And finally, in the year 1988, I adapted my program for use with IBM PC. So now it works with Windows 95/98/2000/XP etc.

On this page I will be presenting, in short intervals, some of the information that this weather program delivers: monthly statistical graphics of air pressure, temperature and dew point, min/max temperatures and relative humidity.

But the weather program can do a lot more. Yes, it even makes a one to two day local weather forecast. The reliability is at least 70 percent.

As you can find out from older books about meteorology, it is possible to make reliable local weather forecasts by using instruments that measure temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, wind speed and wind direction. Of course you also consider cloud coverage, precipitation etc.

The knowledge I obtained from these meteorology books was put into the weather program. A booklet that gave me a real good start was "Wetterkunde - Wie wird das Wetter?" by Karlheinz Mämecke, 1951.
